Top 10 Biggest Liars In Sports History
Lets face it, lies in sports are nothing new to us. In fact, they’re everywhere in our sports today. And in most cases, fans and the media understand that they are being lied to. A coach, lets say, sometimes tells a big fib about a trade that’s in the works in order to throw everybody including the other teams off the trail and ensure that a trade can actually happen. Such lies get a free pass from the fans and most media. We realize we have been lied to and it’s business as usual.
But here are my all-time the top 10 among sports biggest liars. The people on this list have achieved elite status among the worlds biggest liars and con men, and we honor them below— well, sort of — for their ability to believe that we will believe what they say:
10. NICK SABAN
Nick’s Truth: The Miami Dolphins’ coach repeated publicly and emphatically to anyone who would listen, "I’m not going to be the Alabama coach!"
Was It A Lie?: YES! He is the Alabama coach. It’s not I blame him for leaving. But just be straight with us. Did he really think we wouldn’t find out in the end?
9. JOE MORGAN
Joe’s Truth: ESPN’s top baseball talking head gave us some baseball history when he beat Philadelphia with a RBI single in his 1964 Major League Baseball debut. His hit (he told us) extended the Colt 45’s historic 10-game losing streak, wiping out their 6½-game lead in the season’s final 12 games. What a great start for a rookie!
Was It A Lie?: YES! Where do I begin with this one? Hmm, Let me just say that he didn’t record a single RBI in 1964. Let me just say that Joe Morgans rookie season was i n 1963 NOT 1964. And let me just say that Morgan’s 45’s didn’t even play the Phillys during that win streak! SCARY!
8. MICHAEL VICK
Mike’s Truth: Mike said he didn’t know about any dogfighting on his Virginia property. Actually he had only been there that one time at band camp. Then he told us that it really wasn’t his property. Heck he doesn’t really know about any property. He doesn’t even own any property! He rents! Haha
Was It A Lie?: YES! Now Mike is dodging the friendly fire behind bars!
7. FLOYD LANDIS
Floyd’s Truth: The 2006 Tour de France champ told us, "There are possibly hundreds of reasons" for having elephant levels of testosterone in ones system.
Was It A Lie?: YES! Amazingly enough, none of his reasons included a truck load of steroids included in his training regiment. But after flunking two other tests with flying colors Floyd can ride off into the sunset. Let this be a lesson to you!
6. RAFAEL PALMEIRO
Rafael’s Truth: His finger shook with anger and rage as he tried to make his point clear to Congress: "I have never used steroids. Period."
Was It A Lie?: YES! It was later found out that the rage he was feeling was really from the steriods he was injecting frequently into his buttocks.
5. GEORGE O’LEARY
George’s Truth: The almost Notre Dame head coach’s told his new to-be bosses that he played college football at New Hampshire and earned a master’s degree from NYU-Stony Brook. His resume also included rocket science and brain surgery & a trip to the moon in 1967.
Was It A Lie?: YES! Not only had NYU-Stony Brook never heard of ole George, nobody had ever heard of NYU-Stony Brook. When taking on the task of lieing on your resume about such important things please George make sure that the school actually still exsists, and that you actually went there. Did I tell you all that I have a doctorate from Syracuse University?
4. TIMOTHY DONAGHY
Timothy’s Truth: Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy has pleaded guilty to federal felony conspiracy charges alleging that he passed along inside information on NBA games.
Was It A Lie?: NO! He did everything he said he did and worse. This guy single handedly could have brought the NBA down to it’s knees.
3. ROSIE RUIZ
Rosie’s Truth: The question was asked after 1980 Boston Marathon, "How do you look so refreshed after winning the marathon? ". She claims it was because she "got up with a lot of energy that morning."
Was It A Lie?: YES! Heck even I would look refreshed, too, if all I did was fall out of bed and quickly drive up to within a mile of the finish line. While she’s never admitted to cheating, Boston Marathon Officials stripped her title away and banned her from ever competing again. If this happened today, someone would have the spy video on youtube.com within 5 minutes!
2. PETE ROSE
Pete’s Truth: Pete Rose of course didn’t gamble on baseball. He may have taken a few bets out on football, soccer, hockey and such but never on his own sports. He certainly wouldn’t have dreamed to place bets on games he was managing. Becaues we always follow the rules and if it’s against the rules we just don’t do it!
Was It A Lie?: YES! In a 2004 book, Rose finally confessed to us all to betting on baseball while he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds. After publicly raging against the commissioner and his unfair treatment and insisting he was innocent for 14 years, Rose ripped us all off to the tune of $25 bucks so we could read his written confession. I read that book and the confession was worth about $6, the rest of the book wasnt worth anything.
1. ROGER CLEMENS
Roger’s Truth: Roger has told us all that Andy Petite ‘misremembered’, and that his personal trainer injected him with steak and gravy and not HGH and steroids. Add on another allegation that none of us will believe. Now these crazy media people are telling us that Roger likes to play golf with a 15yr old putter!…..well you know what I mean.
Was It A Lie?: YES & NO! We don’t know ALL of the facts yet, but i’ve heard enough to know that Roger is the biggest liar in sports history! And if Clemens was a bit smarter, he would have taken the stand and lied about weapons of mass destruction, causing our country to invade Iraq, spending $700 Billion of our tax dollars, and eroding our country’s status in the world. That way Congress would have ignore him, end the hearing, and move on to more important matters. Roger you really need to plan your scandals better!
