The NBDL is a league designed to develop NBA basketball players. The KBDL is like the NBDL in that it is a developmental league, but other than that there are many differences. The KBDL plays in the summer, and the league is designed to teach Americans the FIBA rules of basketball. Most teams only play four or five regular season games. The regular season is followed by a very short playoff and then they have Pro-AM games. For 2008 the season will run from May 10 to June 28.

OMT should focus on the IBL first, but OMT could become a very powerful organization in the future. OMT may want to purchase a winter league team overseas. If this is the case OMT should look to start an expansion KBDL team at some point in the future. OMT could run the KBDL out of a local high school gym will very little expenses. Plus, OMT could sell sponsorships and season tickets just like with the IBL. This is just a league I wanted to mention to keep OMT members thinking about down the road.

I certainly could see OMT purchasing a team like Antibes in France’s N1 league with the goal of getting Antibes back to ProA. OMT would be wise to invest in the KBDL to develop their own talent instead of overpaying for players that have proven themselves in Europe. The KBDL is a great place for D2, NAIA, and D3 stars to learn the Fiba game. They may start out with their first contract of around 2500 a month in Iceland but down the road they could be making 6 figures in a top league in Europe.

Ownership Opportunities with the KBDL

As professional sports have evolved from a national pastime into a multi-billion dollar industry, the opportunity for participation at the ownership level has become increasingly more difficult and cost prohibitive. The Kentucky Basketball Development Leaue is unique in that it offers individuals or a group of individuals the opportunity to invest in a sport they love and provide the prestige of being an owner or part-owner of a minor league basketball sports franchise.

Why Should I Become Part of a KBDL Basketball Team ?

THE PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP

You will become part owner of a professional developmental basketball team. The KBLD teams goals are to train athletes to become professional basketball players for European FIBA teams. From our first season, we had 14 players sign professional basketball contracts. You will be instrumental in helping shape the careers of young athletes. A KBDL team is fun to be a part of and something that you and your community can be proud of.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

As part of the team you will be involved in the community in many ways; building a team for the community; building a business in the community; assisting athletes from the community; a walking voice for the team; becoming involved with local boosters, fans and citizens; many, many different ways; the games are great, affordable family entertainment. Fans appreciate the KBDL game……
