Bill belichickWell the annual NFL owners meeting started Friday, March 31st in Palm Beach, Florida. By days end it was quite apparent that the focus early on would be about the Patriots Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots scandal that just doesn’t seem to want to quiet down.

“As difficult as the situation has been, we’ve taken it as a positive,” Belichick said.

That’s Belichick doing his best spin to try and finally push this monkey off his back, which might be impossible. Since the Pats were caught in 2007 taping the New York Jets defensive signals, coach Bill and that Pats have been at the center of controversy in the NFL.

During these meetings the NFL and its owners decided to try and level the playing field by allowing some technology onto the field. The owners on tuesday voted to allow the defense to get a leg up on spying. They will now be allowed to wear radio devices in their helmets just like the quarterbacks wear. This will allow one defensive player on the team to wear the device at a time, this should help thwart Bill Belichick and the Patriots from stealing signals. This at the very least should keep Mr Hoodie up late at night thinking and scheming of new ways to steal the signals.

The real scandal in this entire episode is Mr Goodale and how he handled everything early on. Not only do I feel he tried to sweep the issue under the rug early on, but he destroyed every bit of evidence that the public should have had access to in order to decide if the issue was over. This by itself is the biggest reason that the media will not let go, they are also unsure the extent of the spying.

Travis G of OutsideTheBeltway reported, “There was also a similar incident to this last year in a game in Green Bay. Frankly, it makes you wonder how long they’ve been doing this. They won three Super Bowls by an average of just 3 points. Did ’spying’ occur in those games, and if it did, did it make the difference?” With the Matt Walsh storyline still playing out, we may know more soon enough.

All we can hope is that the steps the owners voted in yesterday will help maintain the integrity of the always image conscious National Football League.
