How things can change in the blink of an eye!
We normally go to Connecticut this time of the year for a ‘Early Bird Softball Tournament’, and this year was no exception. Coach called us all to let us know it would be this weekend, and we all made arrangements ahead of time. Most of us are married with kids etc so arranging everything along with jobs can be cumbersome.
We are about 500 miles one way from the tournament site so it does take a bit of planning. This winter in Maine has been record breaking, we broke the state record last week and now have received over 13ft of snow. Current temperatures are still in the 30’s with some nights still under zero.
Most of the guys on my team left a day earlier than me to cut down on the trip time. Two other guys were suppose to go with me, I picked one of them up at his house early this morning. The second guy was about an hour away, and was suppose to meet us at 9am sharp but was a no show. I suppose the nickname that had been given to him, ‘No Show Nick’ was well deserved. After waiting for about 30mins and Nick not answering his cell phone we decided to leave with him as we had an extra guy on the team anyhow. About 40 min’s down Interstate 95 South, we stop at a store to grab the newspaper and Nick calls us. Upset that he overslept, but was on his way. We told him we would wait for him at the store and all leave together from there.
Keep in mind, that every other teammate is already 4-5 hours ahead of us, when I coach calls me on my cell to tell me the tournament has been cancelled because of weather. I was upset but relieved that I hadn’t left the day before and that the problems with Nick actually worked out in our favor (this time!).
So it looks like our next tournament will be at the same site in North Branford, CT in two weeks. I may just wait an extra day this time too!
