Nampa, Idaho Future IBL City?
Nampa has a population of around 80,000, but Boise is right next door as the total metropolitan area has 625,000 people. Nampa has a Division II NCAA basketball team at Northwest Nazarene University. Their arena is known as the Orrin Hills Center Court. The gym is large enough to seat several thousand people as you can see below in the pictures. Personally, I think this venue would be ideal.
This location makes sense because of the large population and lack of quality basketball in the area. The IBL would be the highest quality basketball event the locals have ever had the opportunity to attend in their hometown. With the right marketing I see potential to find local sponsors and have high attendance and support from the community. Importantly, by my count I can come up with 7 teams that Nampa is an afternoon drive from. The Central Oregon Hotshots, run by Mikal Duilio are only 300 miles away from Nampa. The USBA facility in Blue River, Oregon is just down the road from the Hotshots.
I encourage all the new members to give some feedback on the city of Nampa. Have you been there before? Any thoughts on the city? Below I’ll post a picture of the city’s skyline. It is also a bonus that the club could fly out of Boise’s (BOI) airport if we were scheduled to play in the southwest or midwest (or for that matter in China or Japan).
If we locate close to the majority of other teams our IBL franchise would have the opportunity to participate in a lot more games. We can do this with relatively low expenses because we can travel by road to games in Oregon and Washington. The downside to this would be locating to close to other franchises. That would cut into our potential fan base and potential corporate sponsors. Nampa is just far enough away to avoid these pitfals, but it is still close enough to several other teams for road travel purposes.
