Pro Basketball League In Our Sights
I’m announcing today that we are changing the focus from multiple sports to that of basketball for the near future and for a multitude of reasons. At the beginning we felt that we would open up the site with the goal of gaining members in multiple sports and then voting for which sports we would ultimately purchase our team in.
I’m here today to announce that we are pointing the focus of our business model a bit to the left from multiple sports to that of basketball for the near future and for a multitude of reasons we believe will make enable us to be more agile and successful. At the beginning of OwnMyTeam.com we felt that we would open up the site with the goal of gaining members in multiple sports and then voting for which sports we would ultimately purchase our team in. With this thought came the realization that we would need much more time and members to make it happen.
After much thought, research and a meeting with the board of directors on the topic we have decided that for now we plan to focus and put all of energy into the sport of basketball and its fans. Our goal will not change however, and that’s to own and operate with the help of our members the best franchise in the United States. We will integrate ourselves into the perfect community and put a product on the floor that everyone will be proud of.
Some of the reasons that persuaded our thinking were the following reasons but not limited to:
- Initial Cost - A pro basketball teams expenses and costs can be 70% less than football, baseball and most other sports.
- Less Lease Costs - Court time/leases are much less than that of baseball or football and most other sports.
- Member Counts Are Less - To own and operate another type of team right now would require in some cases, 70% more members. We can have the same experience on 70% less members means less time building members, less time and costs advertising and more time to enjoy the fruits of our labor. And better than that, your a bigger part of the team!
- Lower Equipment Costs - We basically will need basketballs, uniforms and a gym! We have even been in touch with a Pro league that will pay for the costs of all uniforms, balls and refs at the games! Compare and contrast that to baseball, football, hockey and the equipment and basketball wins hands down!
Does this mean that we will not consider the other sports? Absolutely not! For the short term will plan to concentrate on this basketball venture, get it up and running smoothly, get the community behind us, put a good product on the floor and see if we can win the championship as well as become profitable. Its then that we will revisit the idea of trying another sports. Again, its all up to you, the members!
